NEWS OF EXISTING PROJECTS

Lemon Tree Arts Venue, Aberdeen

Our plans for the new Lemon Tree in Aberdeen are developing well and we expect to be making a planning application in December. A new webpage has been created for the project. The illustration shows the new foyer at the opposite end to the current public entrance.

New National Centre for Music, Edinburgh

Minor changes to the already consented project have been made and submitted to Edinburgh Council Planning and Historic Environment Scotland. The image shows the new entrance foyer for the concert going public lit by a hidden source of light from a slot in the portico pavement.

Papple Steading, Edinburgh

Listed Building Consent has already been achieved and we await planning permission from East Lothian Council. Meanwhile work continues on the project with a view to a start on site in 2023. Image shows the proposed conference centre.

House at Gullane

Our client's have moved into their h ouse in Gullane, East Lothian. The night-time picture was taken by our clients on the first evening of them living there... but there's still some work to do! House at Braid Hill's Approach, Edinburgh

Following extensive consultation with planners the house has been moved slightly on the site and lowered in height and is about to be resubmitted for planning permission. We hope that this will be achieved by the end of the year with a start on site in Spring 2023.

NEWS OF PROJECTS ON SITE

Macmillan Hub and North Edinburgh Arts

Macmillan Hub in Edinburgh’s Pennywell area is now coming out of the ground with much of the steel frame constructed and parts of the ground floor taking shape. The picture is taken looking at the entrance façade.

Greenock Ferry Terminal & The Wyllieum

Our project in Greenock for the George Wylie Trust, ferry terminal for Peel Ports and restaurant for Scotts, is well underway towards completion in December. The building is now wind and water-tight and fit-out of the restaurant and galleries has begun. The photo shows the entrance with a view through the building towards the Clyde.

RICHARD MURPHY ARCHITECTS IN THE PRESS

Hart St (Richard Murphy's house) continues to exert a fascination to TV companies. Hot on the heels of an RTE film crew came an American channel. We hope to be able post links to the respective programmes after they go public.

Our house at Strathaven Airfield is one of the 60 houses from throughout the UK featured in "21st Century Homes" by Dominic Bradbury, published by the RIBA this month.

LECTURES

In September Richard's house in Hart St and the office hosted 20 students from the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.

Richard will be lecturing about Scarpa in the Ecole Superior d'Architecture in Lyon France on Tuesday 18th October, 2022 at 6pm, if anyone happens to be nearby!

He will also be lecturing to Dundee students about the public buildings the practice has designed and built on Thursday 27th October, 2022 at 6pm in Dundee School of Architecture.

And in the New Year, the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland have invited him to present a lecture about the proposals for the Royal High School (to be known as the National Music Centre) and other works to historic buildings. This will take place on Monday 9th January, 2023 at St Augustine's, George IV Bridge at 6.30pm. Tickets for both in-person and on-line via zoom can be bought here.

OTHER NEWS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!

On 30th September Richard Murphy Architects marked the eve of our 31st birthday (1st October) with a lunch for everyone currently working here. More than half the office wasn't born when the office started in 1991!

AND FINALLY

Richard was flattered to be recognised by the famous singer Camille O'Sullivan at the end of one of her Fringe shows during the Edinburgh Festival. Camille is a qualified architect and told Richard that she was a lifelong fan of our work (it's mutual!) and later in the festival came round for breakfast and insisted on trying everything out in the house. The visit found its way into the Scotsman Diary column!
