NEWS OF PROJECTS ON SITE

Macmillan Hub and North Edinburgh Arts

Macmillan Hub is progressing well on site with much of the external envelope now complete and internal finishes starting in the nursery areas. Expected completion is in late Spring 2024.

Papple Steading, East Lothian

The first phase of the project is going well. The picture shows roof trusses being installed in existing stables, being reconstructed as originally built.

Portal, Trinity College Dublin's Innovation Hub

At Portal the new internal floor slabs and steel frame meeting towers and stairs are starting to be installed, the roof structure is due to be put back on early in the new year.

National Centre for Music, Edinburgh

Now you see it, now you don't, now you do!

A part of Thomas Hamilton’s overall 1820’s composition was the extensive retaining wall to the rear of the school culminating in a substantial belvedere containing the school bell. Extraordinarily, the entire construction has all been completely hidden from view by later buildings constructed in 1885 to the south and by vegetation elsewhere. With the recent demolitions we can see it again for the first time in 140 years.

VISITS

The office visited the new Scottish Galleries of the National Galleries Scotland recently and were kindly given a tour by the Project Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Bryan Robertson.

LECTURES

On 25^th October Richard delivered a talk to about seventy students of architecture and interior design at Edinburgh university.

Bill Black (above) spoke in Inverness on 3^rd November to the Highlands and Islands Architectural Association (HIAA) Annual Conference. The title of the lecture was Invigoration and described the sociable aspects in the design of many of Richard Murphy Architect's projects.

And on 30^th November he gave a lecture in the series called Building on the Built (above) discussing Scarpa’s influence on the practice’s work. The series organised by Jonathan Tuckey Architects takes place in the basement of their office in west London and attracts a wide audience. About 70 people squeezed into the space.

IN THE MEDIA

Richard made a surprise appearance on Spanish tv which showed the Scottish, or Escosia episode, of Dermot Bannon Busca Hogares Increíbles (Dermot Bannon's Incredible Houses).

AND FINALLY...
